One more easy and popular recipe from south india is ‘Pepper Chicken ‘, i am showing you Tamilnanu style Pepper chicken. Let’s see how to make this dish an share your feedback.

Preparation time – 10 mins

Cooking time – 45 mins

Recipe type – side dish

Cuisine – south Indian

Serve – 3-4


Chicken – 500 g (with bone or without bone)

Onion – 2 medium (sliced)

Tomato – 2 (chopped)

Ginger-garlic (paste or crushed) – 2tsp

Curry leaves – 5-6

Green chili (slit cut) – 2

Red chili powder – 1 tsp

Turmeric – ½ tsp

Coriander powder – 1 tsp

Garam masala – ½ tsp

Salt – as per taste

Oil – 3 tbsp

Water – ¼ cup to ½ cup

Fresh coriander leaves – For garnishing

To temper

Cinnamon – 1 inch

Green cardamom – 2-3

Clove/loung – 2-3

To roast and grind

Cumin/jeera – 1 tsp

Fennel seeds – ½ tsp

Black pepper – 2 tsp


Dry roast the ingredients under ‘to roast and grind’ till slightly brown and grind to a coarse powder, keep aside.

Heat oil in kadai or pan and add ingredient under ‘to temper’, let them crackle.

Add onion, green chili and curry leaves, saute and stir till onion translucent.

Add ginger-garlic (paste or crushed), saute and stir till raw smell goes off.

Now add tomato and salt, cook till tomato get mushy.

Add red chili, turmeric, coriander powder and garam masala, stir well.

Add chicken pieces, stir and saute for 2 minutes to fry chicken in masala.

Add coarsely grind powder, stir well and saute for a minute.

Now add water and cook chicken in low-medium flame, for fast cooking put lid. Chicken will take 12-15

minutes to get cooked.

When chicken is cooked add coriander leaves and switch off the heat.


This is the recipe for dry pepper chicken if you want gravy kind add 1 cup of water.

In Short


Dry roast pepper, cumin and Fennel seeds


Till they slight brown


Make coarse powder


Heat oil add clove, green cardamom and cinnamon


Add onion, green chilly and curry leaves, saute till translucent


Add ginger – garlic, saute till raw smell goes


Add chopped tomato and salt, cook for a minute


Add red chilly, coriander, turmeric and garam masala


Stir well


Add chicken


Stir and cook chicken with masala for 2-3 mins


Add coarse powder


Saute for 2 mins


Add water and cook till chicken get tender and dry, for fast cooking put lid


Chicken is tender


Garnish with coriander leaves


Pepper chicken is ready
