Moong dal fry is easy and flavorful recipe. Dals are very essential part of daily indian cooking. This dal you can have with rice or chapati. Try this delicious recipe of making moong dal fry.
For cooking dal
Moong dal/green gram dal – ½ cup
Water – 2 ½ cup
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Salt – as per taste
For frying dal
Onion – 1 medium (finely chopped)
Ginger-garlic – 1 tsp (crushed or paste)
Tomato – 1 medium (finely chopped)
Green chilly – 1or 2 (finely chopped)
Cumin/jeera – ½ tsp
Kasuri methi – ½ tsp
Hing/asafotida – a pinch
Ghee/butter/oil – 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves for garnishing
For cooking moong dal
Rinse moong dal 2-3 times.
Take moong dal in the pressure cooker add water, salt and turmeric powder.
Cook it 5-6 whistle or and one whistle keep moong dal in low flame for 5 mins.
When cooker settle down on its own stir moong dal once. Keep aside.
For frying moong dal
Heat ghee or butter or oil in a kadai.
Add cumin seeds, let creckle.
Add onion and green chilly, fry onion till light brown.
Add ginger-garlic, fry till raw smell goes off.
Add tomato, kasuri methi, hing and a pinch of salt (to cook tomato fast), fry tomato till they get mushy.
Add cooked daal (if needed add water ), bring it to boil.
Let it boil for a minute so dal will absorb all flavors.
After a minute add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Moong dal fry is ready serve with chapati, rice or tandoori roties.
To make it more flavorful add garam masala.
If you like more spicy, add red chilly powder while cooking or add whole red chilly with onions.
