Tomato – Onion Chutney (South Indian Style)
Mouth watery Tomato Onion – chutney which goes well with idli, dosa, paniyaram and paratha. Very easy to make and handy. Let’s see how to make this chutney and share your feed back.

Cooking time – 10 mins
Recipe type – Chutney
Serve – 2-3
Tomato – 2 medium (chopped)
Onion- 1 small ( medium thick sliced )
Red chilly – 3-4 or as needed
Chana dal/gram dal – 1 tbsp
Urad dal/ black gram dal – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 5-6
Tamarind – 1 inch
Asafoetida- a pinch
Oil – 1 tbsp (sesame or any other oil)
salt -as per taste
In a kadai medium heat the oil and add channa dal, urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves and mustard.
Fry them till chana dal and urad dal turn light brown at medium heat. (do not make them brown)
Add tamarind, stir once and turn off the flame. Drain them out and keep aside.
let them cool.
In the same oil add onion, fry for a minute and take it out.
If needed add some more oil, add tomato, asafoetida and salt.
Fry them for 2 mins or until tomato become soft. let them cool.
Take these ingredients which we fried, in a blender and add salt.
Blend them without water and make chutney. (if you want add water)
Tomato-Chutney is ready serve it with idly dosa or chapati.
you can preserve it in refrigerator for 2-3 days.
Medium heat oil, add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, red chilli and mustard
Fry till dals turn light brown and add tamarind, stir once
Immediately drain them out
Fry for a minute
take it out
If needed add oil and fry tomato
Fry till tomato become soft
take it out
After cooling take them in a blender and make chutney
