Egg Devils/Dimer Devil Chop

About Recipe

Dimer devil chop/egg devils is famous street food of Kolkata. You can serve it as a snacks in small party or get together.

Measuring cup used, 1 cup = 220 ml


Potato – 3- 4 big (boiled)

Eggs – 3( hard boiled)

Sliced onion – 1 cup or 2 medium-high

Onion – 1 medium (finely chopped)

Ginger – garlic – 1 tsp (crushed or paste)

Cumin/jeera – ½ tsp

Red chilly – 1 tsp

Turmeric – ½ tsp

Coriander powder – 1 tsp

Garam masala powder – ½ tsp

Salt – as per taste

Oil – as needed

Chaat masala powder – for sprinkle

Egg – 1

Pepper powder – ½ tsp


Heat 2 tsp of oil in a tava.

And place sliced onion. Shallow fry them till they turn medium brown. (you can also deep fry them)

Sprinkle some chaat masala and salt, mix. Keep aside.

For making potato mix

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in kadai or pan.

Add cumin and let splutter.

Add finely chopped onion and fry till light brown.

Add ginger-garlic, fry till raw smell goes off.

Add all dry spice powders, stir once.

Add boiled, peeled and mashed potatoes and salt.

Stir and mix very well for 2-3 minute.

Add chopped fresh coriander leaves, mix well. Switch off the flame.

For making  egg devil

Cut eggs lengthwise into the halves.

Place 1 tsp of fried onion slices on each of them.

Take 1 ½ tbsp of potato mix in your hand, flatten it.

Keep one egg piece in the center.

Cover this egg with another 1 ½ tbsp of potato mix.

Give it oval or egg shape with your hands.

Follow same method for the rest eggs.

Beat a raw egg and add salt and pepper.

Dip one devil egg or chop into beaten egg mix.

Then roll it in bread crumbs.

Make the rest of them in same way.

Let the coated chop rest for 5-7 min.

Now deep fry them in hot oil.

When you drain them out immediately sprinkle some chaat masala.

Serve hot with tomato sauce, red chilly sauce or any spicy sauce.

In Short


Heat 2 tsp of oil in a tava and shallow sliced onion


Till they turn golden brown


Sprinkle some chaat masala and salt


Mix well and keep aside


Heat oil in kadai, add cumin, let splutter


Add  onion


Saute till translucent, add ginger and garlic, saute till raw smell goes off


Add red chilly, coriander, turmeric and garam masala powder, stir


Add boiled, mashed potato stir nicely, add fresh coriander leaves


Potato mix is ready


Cut boiled eggs into halves


Keep 1 tsp fried onion on top of it


Take 1 1/2 tbsp of potato mix in your hand, flatten it


Keep egg on top of it


Cover with some more potato mix


Beat egg, add salt and black pepper powder


Dip the egg chop into the beaten egg


Roll it in the bread crumbs


Keep them aside for 10 mins


Deep fry them in the hot oil


Till golden brown
