Homemade Tandoori Masala

Nothing is better than homemade. Today i am sharing an aromatic tandoori masala recipe. You can use this masala for making tikkas and tandoori recipes. some time i use this masala in my gravies to enhance the flavour.

For tandoori color i have used kashmiri red chili powder but if you want use orange color, but my recommendation is to use kashmiri red chili powder.  Try this home made tandoori masala powder and share your feed back.


Measurement cup used, 1 cup = 220 ml

This recipe will make 1 1/2 cup of tandoori masala

Ginger Powder – 2 tsp

Garlic powder – 2 tsp (you can buy garlic powder from any supermarket, and if you do not get it no worry add little extra garlic while making your dish)  

Cinnamon stick/powder –  2 tsp 

Black pepper corns/kali mirch – 2 tsp

Black cardamom – 2 tsp

Green cardamom – 2 tsp

Nutmeg powder – 1 tsp

Kasuri methi/dry fenugreek – 2 tsp

Dry whole coriander seeds – 4 tbsp

Cumin seeds/jeera – 3 tbsp

Clove/laung – 2 tsp

Mace/javithri – 2 tsp

Kashmiri red chilly powder – ½ cup or whole kashmiri red chili – 20 – 25 (for the color)



Use fresh and dry  ingredients for making this masala. If the ingredients are not fresh better dry them under the sun or  dry roast them (except powder things) just for few seconds (not much other wise it will change the flavour). you can keep this masala for a year in a air tight jar or container.


These are the Ingredients for making tandoori masala


Take all whole spices in a small blender


Grind them to the coarse powder


Now add all powdered spices to the blender


Blend them nicely


sieve it through a strainer


Now blend the remaining  powder once again to the smooth powder


Add it to the powder we sieve before


Keep it in a airtight container or jar, home made tandoori masala is ready
