Palak Paratha or Spinach Paratha

About Recipe

Very healthy and delicious Palak ka Paratha goes well with curd, Tomato – coriander instant chutney or with mango pikal.

Preparation time – 25 mins

Cooking time – 30 mins

Recipe type – Breakfast/dinner

Cuisine – Punjabi/ indian

Serve – 11- 12 Paratha


Mesourment cup used 1 cup = 220 ml

Whole wheat flour – 2 cups

Besan/gram flour – 2 tbsp (optional) Besan will make paratha crispy

Palak – 200 – 250 g or 2 cups

Ajwain/carom seeds – ½ tsp

Hing/asafoetida – 2 pinch

Red chilli powder – ½ – 1 tsp

Salt – as per taste

Oil/ghee/butter – as needed (for shallow fry)

Water – as needed



Rinse the palak in water very well and drain it .

Boil 2 cups of water in a kadai, add palak in that and boil it for 2-3 min.

Drain it and make palak puree. Keep aside. Do not throw the stock in which we have boiled palak we need them while making dough.

In a large bowl take wheat flour, besan, carom seeds, hing, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well.

Add Palak puree and 2 tsp of ghee (adding ghee is optional). Mix well.

Add the stock (in which we boiled palak), and make a smooth dough.

Cover the dough with a plate for 15 min or you can make paratha immediately.

Devoid dough into 11-12 parts or medium sized ball.

Roll the dough ball into a medium sized circle.

Apply 2-3 drops or oil or ghee on the top of the roll dough.

Fold it one side, and again apply oil or ghee on the folded side.

Again fold it.

Now it will be like triangle shape.

Use duster flour and roll it into medium sized paratha with the help of rolling pin.

Place this paratha to the hot tava.

Cook paratha both the sides by adding oil or ghee till it turn crisp and brown both the sides.

Follow the same method for other parathas.


Instead of ajwain you can add grated garlic too.

When you place paratha on tava it should be hot.


In Short


Boil palak with 2 cups of water for 2-3 minutes


Make paste


Take wheat flour, gram flour, red chili powder, salt, carom seeds and hing, mix well


Add palak paste


Add palak stock (in which we have boiled palak and make soft dough


Divide it into 11-12 parts


Take one dough ball and apply dust flour


Roll it in 5 inch circle, apply few drops of ghee


Fold it and again apply few drops of ghee


Fold it again and it will be like a triangle


Apply dust flour and roll it with the rolling pin


Place it to the hot tava


Apply ghee or oil and cook it both the sides


Palak paratha is ready
