Easy Sambar Chicken Curry

Easy sambar chicken curry is cooked in south indian style and flavoured with sambar powder which gives this dish a nice aroma and taste. To make this dish easy and fast i have used pressure cook method but you can cook this curry in kadai too. Here l have used home made sambar powder which is mild in flavor but you can use any good quality sambar powder for this recipe. Serve this mouthwatery curry with rice and chapati. Chicken – 1/2 kg (cut into medium size)
Sambar powder – 1+ 1/2 tbsp (i have used home made )
Onion – 1 medium (finely chopped)
Cumin /jeera seeds – ½ tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Clove /laung – 3-4
Black pepper whole/kalimirch – 6-7
Tomato – 2 medium (finely chopped)
Curry leaves – 10 -12
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Coriander powder – 1-2 tsp
Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
Fresh coriander leaves – 2 tbsp (chopped)
Sesame or any other cooking oil – 3 tbsp
Salt – as per taste
Water – 1 cup
For making masala paste
Onion – 1 – 2 medium (chopped)
Ginger – 1 inch
Garlic – 5-6
Rinse the chicken with water and set aside.
Take ingredients under ‘for making paste’ in a blender and make smooth paste by adding little water. Set aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard, cumin, clove and black pepper. Wait for some time and let them splutter.
Add finely chopped onion and saute till it turns light brown.
Add grinded paste, saute for a minute.
Add red chilli, turmeric, coriander and garam masala powder, saute till oil saprets from the masala.
Now add chicken and fry it with masala for 5 min over medium flame.
Add chopped tomato, sambar powder and curry leaves.
Stir very well and put the lid and cook for 2-3 min over low-medium flame or cook till tomato gets mushy.
After some time open the lid, add salt and water.
Put the pressure cooker’s lid and pressure cook.
For the pressure cooking after 1 whistle turn the flame low and wait for 3-4 minutes and then turn off the flame.
When the cooker settles down on it’s own open the lid and add chopped coriander leaves. Sambar chicken curry is ready. Serve hot with chapati and rice.
Take onion, garlic and ginger in a blender
Make smooth paste
Heat oil, add mustard, cumin, clove and black pepper, let them splutter
Place finely chopped onion
Add grinded paste
Add red chilli, coriander, turmeric and garam masala
Fry till oil saprets
Add chicken and fry it for 5 min over medium flame
Add chopped tomato, curry leaves and sambar powder, stir well
Put the lid and cook for 2-3 minutes or till tomato gets mushy
Put pressure cooker’s lid and cook, for pressure cooking after 1 whistle turn the cooker slow and cook for 3-4 minute
When the pressure settles down on it’s own
Add chopped coriander leaves, sambar chicken gravy is ready
