Hara Masala Chicken Curry

Chicken – ¾ kg or 750 g (cut into medium size)

Onion – 1 finely chopped

Cumin /jeera seeds – ½ tsp

Clove /laung – 4-5

Black pepper whole/kalimirch – 6-7

Green cardamom – 2-3

Tomato – 2 mediu (finely chopped)

Red chilli powder – ½ – 1 tsp

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

Coriander powder – 2 tsp

Garam masala powder – 1 tsp

Fresh coriander leaves – for garnishing

Cooking oil – 1/3 cup or more

Salt – as per taste

Water – 1/2 cup

For making masala paste

Onion – 2 medium (chopped)

Ginger – 1 inch

Garlic – 5-6

Coriander leaves – ½ (tight pack)

Green chilli – 3-4


Rinse the chicken with water, drain it completely and set aside.

Take ingredients under ‘for making paste’ in a blender and make smooth paste by adding little water. Set aside.

Heat oil in a kadai and add cumin, clove, black pepper and green cardamom, wait for some time and let them crackle.

Add finely chopped onion and fry till it turns light brown.

Add grinded paste, saute for a minute.

Add red chilli, coriander, turmeric and garam masala powder, saute and stir till oil saprets from the masala.

Place the chicken piceses and fry over medium-high flame for 5 min.

Add finely chopped tomato and salt, stir very well.

Cover the chicken with the lid and cook over medium flame till tomato gets mushy.

After some when the tomato gets mushy open the and add water, stir nicely.

When the gravy starts to boil simmer the flame and again cover the chicken with the lid.

Cook the chicken till it gets soft and tender.

Finely add chopped coriander leaves and turn off flame.

Serve hot with any indian bread and rice.

These are the ingredients for making green masala


Take them in a blender


Make smooth paste


Heat oil and add clove, cumin, black pepper and  green cardamom, let splutter


Add chopped onion, saute till light brown


Add green masala


Add red chili, turmeric, coriander and garam masala powder, fry till oil saprets from the masala


Add chicken


fry for 5 mins over medium flame


Add tomato and salt, stir well


Put lid and cook at medium flame till tomato gets mushy


After some time open the lid


Add water


Turn the flame low and cook till it gets cooked and tender


Chicken hara masala is ready
