Spiced Baby Potato (no onion – no garlic)

Spiced baby potato without onion and garlic that you can have with chapati, paratha or have it as starters. If using big potato cut into cubes after parboiling.  Hope you will like this recipe.

Mesurement cup used 1 cup – 240 ml

Baby potato – 20 -25

Curd – 2-3 tbsp

Green chili – 1, finely chopped

Kashmiri red chili powder – 1 tsp

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

Coriander powder – 2tsp

Cumin powder – ½ tsp

Black pepper / kalimirch – ½ tsp, crushed

Garam masala – 1 tsp

Hing / asafetida – 2 pinch

Salt – as per taste

Oil – 2 tbsp + 2 tsp

Green coriander leaves – for garnishing




Rinse the baby potatoes very well and parboil them in large pan or pressure cook them for 1-2 whistle (while cooking add salt in water).

Remove the skin and cut them into half.

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a non – stick pan and fry these potatoes until the edges turn light brown. Take them out.

Take Kashmiri red chili, turmeric, coriander, garam masala powder, cumin powder, finely chopped green chili, crushed black pepper, hing and salt. Add little water and mix well. Here you can add grated ginger as well.

Heat 2 tbsp oil in the same pan. Add spice paste to the oil. Fry until oil saprets.

Add curd and salt, fry for few seconds.

Add fried baby potatoes. Mix well with the spices and cook at simmer a minute.

Finely add chopped coriander leaves and mix well then turn off the flame. Here you can add lemon juice.

Serve with hot chapatti and paratha.



For tangy flavor add lemon juice after turning off the heat.


In Short



Rinse the baby potato


Pressure cook them for 1-2 whistle  add salt in water while boiling


Remove skin


Devoid into half


Heat 2 tsp oil in a non – pan or tava


Place these potatoes


Fry until edges turn light brown


Take all spice powders and chopped green chili in a bowl (here you can add grated ginger)


Add very little water and make thick paste


Heat 2 tbsp of oil


Add this paste


Fry till oil separates


Add curd and salt, fry for few seconds


Add fried potatoes


Mix well and cook for a minute at simmer


Add coriander leaves, mix and turn off the flame (here you can add lemon juice after turning off the flame)


Spiced potato is ready
