Paneer Masala / Cottage Cheese Masala

Ingredients

Measurement cup used 1 cup – 240 ml, cut into cubes

Paneer / cottage cheese – 300 – 350 g

Onion – 2, medium, Sliced or chopped

Ginger, garlic and green chili (crushed or paste) – 1 – 1 ½ tbsp Or take 6-7 garlic clove, 2 inch ginger and 1 green chili and crush them

Tomato – 1, big, finely chopped

Red chili powder – ½ – 1 tsp or as per taste

Turmeric – ½ tsp

Coriander powder – 2 tsp

Garam masala – 1 tsp

Cumin powder – 1 tsp

Black pepper powder / kalimirch powder – ¼ – ½ tsp

Coriander leaves – chopped

Salt – as per taste

Oil / butter – 2 tbsp

Method

Heat oil or butter in a kadai.

Add cumin / jeera then wait till turn medium brown.

Add sliced onion then saute till translucent.

Add ginger, garlic and green chili (paste or crushed), fry till raw smell goes off.

Add red chili, coriander, turmeric, cumin, garam masala and pepper powder, fry for few seconds over low – medium heat.

Add chopped tomato and salt, stir. Put lid and cook for a minute at low heat to make tomato mushy.

Open the lid, now masala is well cooked.

Add paneer cubes, stir to mix paneer with masala.

Again put the lid and cook paneer for a minute.

Open the lid add chopped coriander, stir and turn off the heat.

Paneer masala is ready. Serve hot with chapati or paratha.

 

Tips

Always use soft and fresh paneer.

You can add boiled green peas/ matar to this subzi.
