METHOD

First, marinate the chicken with 2 tbsp of curd and  3/4 tsp of turmeric, coat the chicken very well and keep it in refrigareter for 20 minutes.

Soak 1 1/2 cup of  basmati rice or raw rice in sufficient water for 20 -30 minutes.

Take one pressure cook and heat up 3-4 tbsp of butter or cooking oil.

Once oil is hot add all whole gram masala and allow them to crackle nicely.

Add ginger – garlic (paste – crushed), fry till raw smell goes off.

Now add 3 sliced onion and 2-3 slit green chilies. Fry them untill onions turn light pink.

Add 1 tsp red chili, 2 tsp coriander and 2 tsp shahi biryani masala or biryani masala powder, saute just for few seconds.

Now add 2 medium sliced tomato, fry til tomatoes get bit soft.

Here add merinated chicken and fry it for 3-4 minutes over medium heat.

After 3-4 minutes keep one bowl on the top of the cooker (like a lid) and pour  3 cups of water in this . Now cook the chicken over low – medium heat for 5-6 minutes, if needed remove the bowl and stir.

Now add drained rice , 1 egg and  2 tbsp beaten curd, mix gently.

Now finally add salt, chopped coriander leaves and 2 1/2 cups of hot water (for hot water here i have used the water which i kept on the top of the cooker). But if you are making biryani in pot pour 3 cups of water in it.(one more think is also very important is,  while cooking if chicken releases so much of water measure it with cup and after that add water accordingly.)

Close the pressure cooker’s lid.

For cooking biryani in pressure cooker after 1 whistle simmer the flame for 3-4 minutes then turn off the heat. But if you are making biryani in pot pour 3 cups of water in it.(one more think is also very important is,  while cooking if chicken releases so much of water measure it with cup and after that add water accordingly.)

Serve it hot with onion raita.
