Moong Dal Halwa / How To Make Moong Dal Halwa

  Measurement cup used 1 cup = 240 ml                                                                                                                                                             

INGREDIENTS

 

Split green gram dal (dhuli moong dal) – ½ cup

Clarified butter/ ghee – ¼ cup

Water – 2 cups

Milk – ¼ cup

Sugar – ½ cup for medium sweetness or ¾ for more sweetness

Cardamom / elaichi powder – 1/8 tsp

Cashew nuts / kaju – 6-7 (broken)

Badam / almonds (blanched and sliced) – 3-4 (for garnishing)

 

 

METHOD

 

First, soak the moong dal in sufficient water for 4-5 hours and then drain it completely.

Grind it into the course paste. The paste should not be very fine it should have little grainy texture.

Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a non – stick pan or kadai.

Place broken cashew nut and fry till light golden brown then take it out and keep aside.

Now add the remaining ghee and heat it.

When ghee is medium hot, add moong dal paste. Turn the heat to the low flame and mix well with spatula.

Roast the moong dal at low flame for 20 -25 minutes and stir almost continuously.

When you are roasting moong dal meanwhile heat up water and sugar until sugar dissolve completely, then turn off the heat.

After 20 -25 minutes, you will see the color of moong dal has changed to the golden pink and now, their is no raw smell is coming from the moong dal so now it roasted well. You will see the ghee is also separated from the moong dal.

Now add sugar syrup and milk together to the kadai.

Turn the heat to medium – high and stir in between.

Wait till moong absorbs the sugar syrup completely. Till the time stir it in between.

At the end add fried cashew nuts and cardamom powder then immediately turn off the heat and mix very well.

 Moong dal halwa is ready to serve. Serve it hot and in room temperature.

Add moong dal paste, roast it over low heat and stir it almost continuously

meanwhile heat up water and sugar until sugar dissolve completely, then turn off the heat.

After 20 -25 minutes, you will see the color of moong dal has changed to the golden pink and now, their is no raw smell is coming from the moong dal so now it roasted well. You will see the ghee is also separated from the moong dal.
